In England, William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was still writing during part of the 17th century. Other 17th century writers include: Sir Thomas Browne (1605-1682), John Donne (1572-1631), Ben Johnson (1572-1637) and Lady Mary Wroth (1587-1651) along with Robert Herrick (1591-1674). Other seventeenth century writers include Anne Killigrew, Joseph Addison, William Wycherley, George Herbert and John Aubre. This period includes the book which unquestionably occupies the highest place in English literature, that is the King James version of the Bible, and in poetry it includes one of the greatest figures John Milton, together with a varied assemblage of lesser lyricists.
